If you fancy the beautiful graphics, mysterious icons, and exciting gameplay synonymous with Egyptian-themed slots, Scarab by IGT is worth giving a shot. Released in 2019, this 5×4 layout slot with 75 paylines is set against a backdrop of ancient Giza pyramids under the colourful sunset skies.

Red and yellow stripes border the game’s blue-coloured reels. As they roll, you’ll find regular card symbols (A, K, Q, J, and 10) alongside those of Egyptian gods, including Anubis (dog), Horus (falcon), and Maahes (lion).

Other icons visible on the reels include the High Priestess, the Ankh cross, and the eye of Ra. The soundtrack accompanying gameplay is upbeat and you might find yourself nodding to the beat  as you spin.

Scarab has a 95% RTP and low to medium volatility. This variance level means that you’ll receive low payouts regularly. Landing the High Priestess icon five times across the reels will earn you the max win of 200x your stake, but the likelihood of this happening is low.

Wild Stays Charges Then Pays Feature

Every paid spin on the Scarab slot is numbered 1 to 10 — shown at the reels’ top right corner. The spin number increases after each spin until it reaches 10.

Anywhere a Scarab (golden beetle with red and blue jewels) lands on the reels, a Golden Frame appears and remains locked in until the 10th spin.

Once you hit the “Spin” button for the 10th spin, you’ll hear a feminine voice utter the word — Wilds. Here, all icons bordered by a Golden Frame transform into Wild symbols, forming winning combinations.

Although this feature is excellent, we realised that small bets translate to meagre winnings, even after the 10th spin, where Wilds appear to form winning combos.

As such, we increase our wager per spin to €15.00. Twenty spins later, we earned a total (regular and wild wins) of €326. Albeit representing a €26 return, we were content with this outcome regardless.

Free Spins Bonus

The Free Spins Bonus is a highlight of the Scarab slot. You must land at least three pyramid scatters across the reels to activate this bonus game.

Landing three, four, or five scatters across the reels gives you access to three unique free spin choices:

Three Scatters
Four Scatters
Five Scatters
Choice 1
10 Free Spins and 7 Wilds
30 Free Spins and 5 Wilds
45 Free Spins and 5 Wilds
Choice 2
10 Free Spins and 7 Wilds
20 Free Spins and 7 Wilds
30 Free Spins and 7 Wilds
Choice 3
5 Free Spins and 10 Wilds
10 Free Spins and 10 Wilds
15 Free Spins and 10 Wilds

After what seemed like an eternity, we landed three pyramid scatters across the reels. Just then, the game’s reels crumbled and free spin choices engraved on three stony tablets appeared.

We went with the 1st choice — 15 Free Spins and 5 Wilds. This round earned us a mind-boggling sum of €1,788. The fixed Wilds came in handy here, increasing our wins after each spin.

Scarab Slot Verdict

We thoroughly enjoyed the Scarab slot by IGT. Unlike most highly volatile Egyptian-themed slots, this game has low to medium variance. So, if you’d like to risk a little and stand a chance to make decent wins, Scarab should place high on your bucket list.

The Wild Stays Charges Then Pays Feature is an exciting in-game add-on you’ll love due to the rewards it brings.

But the highlight of this game remains the Free Spins Bonus. Although we took lots of spins to land a scatter combination that triggered the bonus game, it was worth the wait as we made huge wins during this round.

IGT did a great job on the Scarab slot, integrating elements that make gameplay rewarding and immersive. If you’re looking for a slot where the excitement is a constant from start to finish, consider hitting “Spin” on the game.

Similar Slots to Scarab Slot

If Egyptian-themed slots are your thing, then be sure to check out some great games similar to the Scarab slot:

Book of Dead

Released by Play’n GO in 2021, the Book of Dead slot has a 5×3 layout and 10 paylines. Unlike Scarab, Book of Dead has a slightly elevated RTP value of 96.21%.

Although both games have similar bonuses, Book of Dead stands out with a Gamble Feature. Also, this slot has a 5,000x your stake maximum payout — 25x more than the max win on Scarab.

Book of Ra Deluxe

The Book of Ra Deluxe was announced by Novomatic in 2008. RTP-wise, it has a slightly higher value than the Scarab slot, coming in at 95.1%. While Scarab has low to medium variance, Book of Ra Deluxe features high volatility.

Like the Scarab slot, Book of Ra has one notable bonus game — the Free Games Feature. However, note that while Book of Ra features a maximum payout of 5,000x your stake, the maximum win on Scarab is just 200x your wager.
