Released in June 2019 by Play’n GO, Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness is based on H.P. Lovecraft’s fictional creation — the Cthulhu Mythos. This game has a 5×5 layout with cascading reels. To prompt a winning combination, you must land symbols in clusters of four or more. All wins charge up a Portal that’ll grant you various bonuses as gameplay progresses.
Once you launch the slot, you’ll come across its main features and how they function. And just before the reels appear, a chilly, deep voice utters some words, letting you know you’ve just escorted Wilde into a sinister location. But not to worry; the thumping sounds accompanying gameplay and Rich Wilde positioned at the right side of the reels should make you soldier on without any hint of fear.
With a 96.59% RTP, the Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness has high variance and a maximum payout of 2,000x your bet. This review aims to uncover the game’s peculiarities to see if it’ll be worth your time.

The slot integrates specific Eye Mark locations across the reels. Landing a winning cluster in any of these spots awards you two Special Wilds (Book of Madness) that’ll replace regular symbols. We made numerous wins in the Eye Marks locations and received Special Wilds, increasing our winning combinations. The result wasn’t that great, but we made a reasonable sum by landing multiple wins in these locations.
Although we’ve talked about the Special Wild, note that Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness has two other Wilds — Multiplier Wild and Mega Wild. The Multiplier Wild doubles all wins, while the Mega Wild steadily moves downward to form winning combinations. During gameplay, we didn’t land either Wilds. However, we settled with the combinations the Special Wilds offered us.
The Portal at the left side of the reel recharges on every win. However, its value will return to zero after a losing spin. Bonuses received from the Portal depend on how many symbols you land.
Here are the incentives you can get from the Portal:

Landing streaks of wins to fill up the Portal is challenging, irrespective of your bet amount. However, after spinning the reels countless times, the slot finally rewarded us with the symbols required to activate the extras listed above.
As such, we earned the ultimate prize of activating the Other World Free Round — and what a round it was!
After collecting 42 symbols and filling up the Portal’s metre, we unlocked the Other World Free Round. Here, you’ll receive an extra Portal Effect for every three winning icons.
You have a maximum of seven Portal Effects to enjoy. One random Portal Effect is triggered if you get no wins after a cascade. During this round, you’ll find 11 or 12 Eye Marks, and opening all of them introduces the Mega Wild Cthulhu Symbol that’ll move down the reels to create winning combinations.
The feature ends when all Portal Effects are played out.
When we unlocked the Other World Free Round, we saw the reels’ background transform into a dungeon with fires at both ends. Although we didn’t land a Mega Wild, this round earned us a Big Win worth €47.85.
Play’n GO can’t stop creating Rich Wilde-themed slots because their fans love the explorer! The visuals are excellent; we loved seeing in-game symbols come alive and Rich Wilde actively participate in gameplay.
Understanding this slot gets simpler with each spin. Landing wins in the Extra Mark areas will earn you Special Wilds critical to forming winning combinations. Wins, in turn, charge up the Portal that’ll reward you with several bonuses, the ultimate being the Other World Bonus Round — the feature that earned us a Big Win.
But Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness isn’t that rewarding. Although we received substantial amounts from the Bonus Game, wins in the base game are small. While these earnings can accumulate into a reasonable sum, they’re nothing unusual.
But if you’re looking for a fun slot with great features and immersive visuals, Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness is the perfect fit for your wagering goals.
The Book of the Fallen slot was released by Pragmatic Play in 2021. This 3×5 layout slot has a 96.50% RTP, less than the value on Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness.
Although Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness has more extras than the Book of the Fallen slot, we appreciate the latter’s Free Spins round that earned us over 10x our bet. However, the 5,000x max win paired with Book of the Fallen is over two times higher than what you’ll find on Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness.
Book of Rampage 2 was released by Spinomenal in 2022. This 5-reel slot has 10 paylines and a maximum RTP value of 96.14% (0.45% lower than what you’ll find on Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness).
Bonus-wise, Book of Rampage 2 isn’t on the level of Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness. However, it switches things up with a Buy Feature. Book of Rampage 2 has a 5,000x maximum payout higher than Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness offer.
